Surprise Marriage Proposal at Castel Toblino

Castel Toblino – Surprise Proposal – Engagement Photoshoot – Riva del Garda – Trentino

Castel Toblino Engagement Photo Shoot

A Romantic, Intimate and Picture-Perfect Engagement in the Heart of Trentino

This is the story of a surprise marriage proposal — and it truly couldn’t have been a bigger surprise. Carefully and lovingly orchestrated by Christopher with the help of Sarah’s mother, this proposal at Castel Toblino was nothing short of magical.

Sarah had been vacationing on Lake Garda for a few days with her mother, while Christopher remained in Germany due to work commitments. Unfortunately, it was the last day of Sarah’s holiday and her mood wasn’t the brightest. To cheer her up, her mom suggested stopping for lunch at a beautiful spot on the way home: Castel Toblino, a fairytale castle on the shores of the lake that shares its name.

What Sarah didn’t expect at all was to find Christopher waiting for her — engagement ring in hand.

Christopher had planned everything over the previous months. He even made a couple of trips from Munich to Castel Toblino to make sure every detail was perfect. The restaurant management granted him access to the castle half an hour before opening to ensure privacy and intimacy for such a meaningful moment. They also reserved the best lake-view table on the terrace for the romantic lunch that followed the proposal.

Needless to say, Sarah was completely caught off guard. Everything happened so suddenly that she barely realized what was going on at first.

Before lunch, we took advantage of the castle’s interiors — still empty before opening to the public — to capture a few intimate couple portraits. Meanwhile, Sarah’s mother discreetly returned home, leaving behind Sarah’s suitcase. That’s because, for one last surprise, Christopher had booked a hotel room for them in Riva del Garda, so they could extend their holiday a few more days.

After lunch — during which I gave them complete privacy — Sarah changed out of her travel clothes into something more fitting for the occasion. We then took a few more photos inside the castle before heading to Riva del Garda, just a short 30-minute drive away.

There, we ended the engagement photo session by the lake — a place that holds deep sentimental value for Sarah, as it has always been her family’s favorite holiday destination since childhood.

Christopher’s choice of location couldn’t have been more perfect. Castel Toblino offers a unique charm and, most importantly, a level of intimacy that’s hard to find on Lake Garda, especially during the busy summer season.

The only “outsider” present at the proposal was me, the photographer — but Sarah was so surprised and overwhelmed that she barely registered my presence, accepting it as just one more unexpected element of the day.

Sarah and Christopher are truly a wonderful couple. Young, yet together for many years, and so clearly in love and in sync. It was incredibly easy for me to connect with them — it felt as though we had already met before. That’s what happens when you work with genuinely kind, sociable people: you immediately feel like you could become friends if only there were more chances to meet again.

Sadly, that’s not always possible. But it was a true pleasure to meet them, and I sincerely wish them all the best — starting with finishing the beautiful house they’re building, so they can finally tie the knot!
